SMILE aims to improve our understanding of the dynamic coupling between the solar wind and Earth‘s magnetosphere. The Soft X-ray Imager (SXI) will measure X-ray emissions from the magnetosheath and cusp regions, enabling reconstruction of time series of the magnetopause position. Simultaneously, the UltraViolet Imager (UVI) will observe the dynamics of the auroral oval. Together, these observations will provide essential information on the dayside magnetospheric response to solar-wind disturbances, including interplanetary shocks and southward turnings of the interplanetary magnetic field. In this presentation, I will describe methods for reconstructing magnetopause positions from SXI observations and discuss additional scientific investigations enabled and inspired by the SMILE mission.
(Dr. Andrey Samsonov, Senior Research Fellow, UCL Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London , UK)

GEOSPACE seminar
«Modeling Particle Acceleration and Transport in Solar Flares«

2 July 2026
(Hybrid format, Zoom)

Подробнее

Recent multi-messenger, multi-viewpoint, and time-resolved observations are providing unprecedented constraints on particle acceleration and energy transport in solar flares. Interpreting these observations requires models that go beyond traditional one-zone or single-mechanism descriptions. In this seminar, I will review recent progress in multiscale and multidimensional modeling of flare particle acceleration, including kinetic simulations, MHD models, and macroscopic particle-transport approaches. These studies show that 3D effects, such as field-line chaos, turbulence, and realistic magnetic topology, are critical for understanding sustained particle acceleration and spatially resolved emissions. I will also discuss emerging efforts to connect global flare dynamics with energetic particle transport and synthetic HXR and microwave diagnostics, as well as remaining challenges in achieving quantitative closure between models and observations.

(Dr. Xiaocan Li, Research Scientist, Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA)

Название Дата, место Предельный срок подачи Ссылка Темы, цели, задачи The Seventeenth Moscow International Solar System Symposium (17M-S3) October 12-16, 2026 Moscow, Russia Deadline for abstract submission July 10, 2026 Подробнее Starting from 2010, the Space Research Institute holds annual international symposia on Solar system exploration.
